Metal Clay World Conference Globe2007 Metal Clay World Conference
Cindy Pankopf

Conference Presenter – Cindy Pankopf

I began with a degree in Graphic Design, and spent over a decade in that field. The moment I discovered beading, I knew that my career would take a turn from two to three dimensions. I was instantly intrigued with metal clay, and have been experimenting with new techniques since the hours after my first class. I quickly realized that I wanted to become a certified instructor so I could share my abilities and enthusiasm for this amazing material.

I am now a Senior Instructor with Art Clay World USA, and have been teaching introductory classes and classes of my own designs regularly for quite some time. I was elected founding President of the ever growing Art Clay Society of Orange County in January of 2008.

I like to teach classes focusing on techniques, rather than creating identical projects, as much as possible. I believe that demonstrating specific skills in great detail will give my students a greater understanding of specific techniques/products which I hope will translate into general knowledge that my students can use in future projects. It gives me great satisfaction to see my students create and explore on their own.

Conference Presentation Overview:
Snake Charming – Applications for Coils

Power Point Presentation PDF

Rolling clay snakes can be a perilous task, but in this session you will learn how to charm the snakes and be in control. Use them to make decorative elements, rings, stone settings, frames, cages, and even precise faux–granulation, just to name a few applications. Making coils from clay is an instrumental technique to master, but many find it troublesome. In this session you will learn how to properly condition the clay to the ideal consistency. This will prevent the cracking that can cause so much frustration. You will also see techniques for rolling snakes, and how to manipulate them without damage. Tapering, twisting and curling…you have to know how to roll clay snakes! Use them wet, or use them dry…no matter what, you will use them! There will be numerous examples of snake uses in finished pieces.
