Conference Presenter – Gordon Uyehara Born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, Gordon attended grade school in the lush foothills of Moanalua Gardens. There he excelled at mediocrity and focused doodling, and developed a strong dislike to canned spinach (though he admits the cafeteria brownie was exceptional). It was during these formative years he very much resisted being formed but it was not until after his college years that everyone finally gave up trying. Through all the classes and short–lived jobs, there was one thing that remained constant: his love for doodling. One sweaty day in the summer of 2002, Gordon discovered silver metal clay at a local bead store. He was instantly captivated and immersed himself in silver clay from dusk to dawn (and sometimes even dreamed about it). His doodling evolved into sketches of wearable art. These were diagrams of things he could create with silver clay and he made many of them. Gordon entered these pieces in contests, posted them on the Web, published them in magazines, and sold them in a store. Now, and for the last six years, there have been two constants in Gordon’s life: metal clay and doodling. But he still misses the brownies. |
